DITAPlatform · run your own library
NGOs & field programmes

Built for the last mile.

Reading programmes fail on logistics, not intent. Books are heavy, expensive to ship and impossible to update. DITA Platform works on old phones, on bad connections, in the languages your programmes actually run in.

The problem

A pallet of donated books arrives in the wrong language, three months late, and cannot be corrected once it is on the ground.

In the field

Assume nothing works.

The design assumption is no signal, old hardware and shared devices — not a good connection with occasional dropouts.

  • Offline first. Borrowed titles work with no connection at all. A device only needs a network to borrow and return.
  • Old devices. Runs in a browser on hardware years past its best, and on shared tablets handed between users.
  • Low bandwidth. An ebook is a couple of megabytes. A shipment of books is a truck.
  • Update instantly. Correct a guide, translate a leaflet, add a title — and every device has it at next connection.
Languages

The languages the programme runs in.

Multilingual isn't a feature here, it's the entire requirement.

  • Any script. Full right-to-left support, and interface translations, so the library reads the way your community does.
  • Parallel collections. The same programme material in several languages, side by side, chosen by the reader.
  • Your own material. Health guidance, teaching material and safeguarding information, produced as proper readable books.
  • Open collections. Openly licensed textbooks and literature by subject, free, alongside your own.
Practicalities

What your programme and donor teams will ask.

No personal data needed

Readers can join from a printed code — no name, no registration, nothing tied to a case file.

Codes expire

Access ends on its date, so nobody has to manage accounts as people move on.

Regional hosting

Choose where data lives, for whatever framework governs the programme.

Reportable

Loan counts and collection use export as plain files for donor reporting. No reader profiling.

Start

Talk to us about a programme.

Field deployments usually need a conversation about languages, devices and connectivity before anything else. Tell us the context.
